302 Question

Subject: 302 Question
My younger brother and I scrounged a free 302 from our uncle who had taken it
out of a Torino. He complained it had burned oil like crazy, and after taking
it apart we found that several valve seals were shot or non-existant.

My question is this, is this thing worth hopping up? We checked the pistons for
bore sizes and found none, hopefully indicating that it had never been
bored-out. The cylinders have a slight ridge, but nothing bad enough to make it
difficult to remove the pistons, and no scratches or gouges. The rods and crank
all look pretty clean, no discoloration.

I hope this isn't to general of a question, but I thought other people may have
done similar things to get their first hot-roddable motor and could give me
some insight. Build up suggestions would also be nice, with budget being a
priority. If things go well, the motor will be installed in his '81 Bronco
which may be lifted or lowered, he's not sure yet.

If this stuff is in a FAQ somewhere, I'll gladly read it to spare the
bandwidth. Also, direct replies are cool.
