Posted for a friend...

Help! I have just had the misfortune (fortune?) of aquiring a 1971 ford F100
shortbed stepside pickup. The price was right (free!) but it needs a motor
and windshield. Does anyone out there have a 300 c.i.d 6 cylinder that
doesn't burn to much oil yet? I might use a 240 if the price was right, and
it wasn't to burned out yet. Also I need a windshield. If anyone in the
sonoma county area has a motor or windshield they are just dying to get rid
of please contact ...

If I am not mistaken, this 6 cylinder uses the same bellhousing bolt
pattern as a small block (302 and friends, 351C and 351W). You could if
you just want to get it running, open up your "low buck" options if this
is true. And if you are really desperate to just get it moving for
cheap, a 250 straight 6 from passenger cars also uses a small block
bellhousing pattern.

But I wouldn't bother trying junkyards for a windshield. Old trucks, not
just Fords, keep going for a long time. Dodge, Ford, and the GM twins
have over 85% of all the trucks made from somewhere back in the 60's
still on the road. Some brands are way up past 90%. I know trucks are
scarce in junkyards around here unless they are frankly just totalled or
have been "used up" (construction and so on). You may get lucky though.
But windshields for some cars are cheap, even installed.
