My 89 Escort ZX2 AND Mercury Tracer--esentially the same chassis have both had their fuel pumps jammed with dirt requiring replacdement in one so far have others had this problem and what was their fix? #1 This topic is about my 1998 Ford Escort MkV

The escorts both have the same chassis as a Mazda and some others, they just crimp different tin over it.
Both my Tracer and the ZX2 have had their fuel pump suddenly jamb, requiring a replacement on one--so far. needless to say they're a pain to access being in the tank under the rear seat (ah the joys of new(er) cars~~) I guess we're SUPPOSED to throw them away when they malfunction~~~!

In any case has anyone come up with a fix to prevent sand from somehow getting into the input area for the pump?
