Any suggestions where I can find a GOOD quality heater core? This is
for a 69 coupe with A/C. The original core lasted until 1980, or so.
It didn't leak, it was just plugged solid. I got the first replacement
from Ford and lasted until last year when it started leaking. I
replaced it with a new one from American Mustang in Sacramento (I don't
remember what brand it was) and it started leaking after little more
than a year - soaking the new carpet with antifreeze!

The radiator cap is only rated 13 lbs. - that shouldn't be enough to
have caused it to start leaking. Is it just crummy repro products I'm
getting these days? Pulling the dash and A/C lines again is getting
old.

Any advice appreciated.

I feel your pain....
2 years ago I had to do both of my 68's one with A/C one without.
Both times I used a replacement cores from Mustang parts house out of Dublin
CA. I don't remember the brand name, but so far, so good...

FYI, I've learned that heater core life is not only dependant on quality,
but how you run the hoses to it, and if it has a restriction in the hoses.
I don't think I have restrictors, but all the newer mustangs do, and when
they replace the original hoses and don't put in the same restrictors, the
heater cores always seem to blow. I'm wondering if our mustangs didn't
originally also have them(hidden in the original rubber hoses).

I've also gone through some cores, and I've found that if you stress the
core by running hoses in such a way that they vibrate or cause bending
stress on the outlets, they won't last long. Make sure to put as little
bending pressure on the outlets as possible, and if possible, route your
hoses away from the vibration of the engine. If it helps, for those of you
with AC on your stangs, you can get a 90 degree coolant vacuum valve to
replace the original straight vacuum valve.

Good luck!
