I have a '67 coupe and the driver's side window is very difficult to roll
down, much easier to raise. I took the door panel off, and can't see
anything wrong, but when you try to lower the window you get a metallic
scraping sound. The post that the handle connects to is somewhat loose.
Do I need a new regulator? Is this as difficult as it seems?
Thanks
(email redacted)
PS: I just installed a Pertronix ignitor. Very simple, took about 10
minutes. Virginia Classic Mustang has them on sale for $59.95.

Hey Larry,
Wow, what a drag, first no lights! now your window is messed up.
Just be glad you're in a warm place, -2 today @ 8:00 in Ohio.
With the door panel off, look at the condition of the little
plastic pieces at the end of the window support arms (the X thingie)
These allow the window to slide down the sides of the two vertical
'tubes' that run in the door. I've seen these break off in the past.
Are they dry, might want to grease them?
Don't know if you can get new sliding do-hickies, or if you need
to get the whole X thingie (called the regulator maybe??)
How's that for clear?
Good Luck,

Larry,
Certainly check the nylon/plastic rollers for damage, and clean &
regrease them. Also, from your description, it sounds like the same
problem that I had...
The shaft (post) that the handle connects to, is connected to the
X-thingie (regulator) with the gears. As the rollers got filthy, more
force is required to raise/lower the window, causing the shaft to
damage the low-tech bushing in the regulator...thus causing the
looseness that you described. I could not find any repair parts, and
ended up replacing the window regulator, solving the problem.
The shop manual has a pretty good description of this procedure.
Good Luck,

Regarding the Pertronix...how does is seem to run now? I just received
a week ago, still awaiting a good weather day to install...

I didn't notice any change in performance, better or worse.

I'm interested...Do you notice any difference in performance?
All the best. Dave

I recently had to replace my driver door window regulator 2 times in 1
year. I foolishly put in an aftermarket part which did not match up to
the quality of the Ford part, as a matter of fact it broke and
embarassed me at the MCA Mustangs Across America in Canton Ohio. Your
symptoms sound like mine, check to see if your crank is loose, that is a
sign that the little gear box is coming apart. I replaced mine and all
is well. It is not very difficult but after rebuilding several doors
several times you would be amazed at what is no longer difficult. You
do not need to remove the window to do this either. I did that the
first time since I was replacing all my felts. It took forever and
could never get the window lined up perfect. The second time I was done
in 1 hour...Practice! BIG SUGGESTION...Buy a Ford regulator!

Had it out the weekend before and after Xmas.
It hit the 50's and I thought it was spring!
