Thought it would be interesting to hear what kind of hobbies my fellow
mustang enthusiasts are into when you're not working on your mustangs. I
don't recall this ever being asked before.
Mine are classic arcade games (restoration and playing) and bodybuilding.
But having little kids, I often feel like I'm spread too thin in each of my
hobbies.

Interesting vein to explore....I am into deer hunting, fishing,
gardening and walking besides Mustangs. We have two Stangs: a '66 coupe with a
289 and a '03 drop top with a six.

Well, I've talked about my oldest son being a former World Champion in
TaeKwonDo.
What I don't think I've really talked about is that our ENTIRE FAMILY
(including GRANDMA) are Black Belts in TaeKwonDo.
So I guess TKD is our family hobby.
Unfortunately, since I had spinal surgery and my wife developed Leukemia
(which she is now "almost" considered cured), we don't get to work out as
much as we did a couple of years ago, but it's still very much in our blood
and a part of our lives.
Also, the Uber Geek in me loves collecting anything Star Trek (old school
Kirk & Crew, not NextGen.)
Lance.

Hey Jason, fellow bassist here. I have 4 bass guitars (3 electric and one
acoustic/electric), 4 synthesizers, 2 electric guitars (one is a pre-CBS
Fender Telecaster I am restoring) and one acoustic guitar plus a flute that
I am extremely rusty at.

Thought it would be interesting to hear what kind of hobbies my fellow
mustang enthusiasts are into when you're not working on your mustangs. I
don't recall this ever being asked before.
Mine are classic arcade games (restoration and playing) and bodybuilding.
But having little kids, I often feel like I'm spread too thin in each of my
hobbies.

I enjoy home repairs and have a few rental properties . We have a
1953 Farmall Cub tractor we use regularly for mowing that we have
begun restoration. That 6 volt positive ground system still blows my
mind.

I do:
-Metal fabrication, machining (milling), welding (TIG, MIG)
-Wood working, like furniture building
-Speaker building, car and home
-Electronics projects mostly for the above
I also like mountain biking, and RC cars. But like many others here, I have three boys (4,8,12) so my time is very limited!

I know what you mean! I've taken a break from the Mustang right now too. Just not enough time.
It's cool that you're a pastor! I lead worship on Sunday mornings in our Sunday school at our Bible church. I also have an electric guitar I've messed around with, but would love to learn how to play someday.

Music for me too. I started taking classical piano lessons when I was
5 and have picked up the guitar and bass and a little drums over the
years. I have a studio in my basement and have a few friends that
come over and play on weekends. I also enjoy cooking - coming up with
new things to try. And it occasionally includes a batch of homebrew.

Hi Jason:
No, sadly, not playing in a band right now. Have all the gear stuffed away in a spare bedroom though. Hoping to put together something of a recording studio in there someday. Did play professionally for about 5 years. Mostly weekend stuff and parties. We were primarily a 50's-80's cover band but had a few originals we did. I have a Steinberger wood?body (headless) 5-string fretless, a Hohner wood body (headless licensed by Steinberger) 4-string fretted with active electronics, a 1983 Fender Precision Special (cream colored with gold hardware & active electronics), and a Fender acoustic electric hollow body with small onboard graphic EQ. Synths include a Korg DW-6000, Korg DW-8000 (stereo), Yamaha DX-7 and a Casio-something. The guitars are pretty unique. A Kay Les Paul Synth guitar with onboard effects (whirlwind, echo, fuzz, etc.) that was actually in a collectible guitar book of mine that I found, a pre-CBS Fender Telecaster (currently in pieces)?and an old F-hole arch top guitar (can't even remember the name now). If you are into flutes, it's a Gemeinhardt. We still have all the PA gear, big 2-15 bass cab (the tolex is shredded from road use) and a couple of smaller stage amps, combos and such. Would like to play at a car show sometime but don't know how I'd get the gear there.

Hey Jason, fellow bassist here. I have 4 bass guitars (3 electric and one acoustic/electric), 4 synthesizers, 2 electric guitars (one is a pre-CBS Fender Telecaster I am restoring) and one acoustic guitar plus a flute that I am extremely rusty at.

Thought it would be interesting to hear what kind of hobbies my fellow mustang enthusiasts are into when you?re not working on your mustangs. I don?t recall this ever being asked before.
Mine are classic arcade games (restoration and playing) and bodybuilding. But having little kids, I often feel like I?m spread too thin in each of my hobbies.

Drag racing, photography (both of us), DIY anything just about. I'm getting
into metal working - have a 9 x 20 lathe and an in the market for a mill.
Assuming finances let me be in the market LOL. If I'd know how much I might
do with a lathe, I'd have bought a bigger one to start with. My dad was a
Field Service Engineer for IBM, it's a wonder I'm a more mechanical guy than
electrical. Used to play piano and guitar - I should re-start that too.
Time? Time?

Been watching this thread with interest.
I tried to respond while out on the road (consulting), but internet service was spotty - not sure if the response made it through.
When I'm not driving, showing-off, working on, or writting about my Mustangs (and not at work or asleep!), I experiment with renewable energy sources, mostly solar power. I figured out how to power my pool pump motor and central A/C unit from borrowed solar panels, which would take my electric usage bill from $480 to $80/month. But they're expensive. What I'm working on now (as soon as I get the engine back in my Boss) is a panel that costs 10% of the current retail price. To do that, I need to increase the efficiency from 17% to 80%; I think I figured out how. But I'm not a solar panel factory, just a guy with too much time on his hands.
The other thing I've been toying with for years is an engine with zero cost fuel. I've got the solution, but have some engineering to do.
The sad part I've realized in my "tinkering quest" is what drives my efforts. It seems to me that the "rules of the game" in the business world would not let someone build / sell something for $0.40 if the going market price for the same commodity was $400. Or maybe that's just human nature? And to add an additional complication, my patriotic side shows through too often: I only want my inventions to be cheap, free, etc. for Americans; I really want to make a killing on everyone else. It's got to do with this notion I can't shake that the nation (US) that invented everything in the past century should have gotten a lot more benefit from our labors and sacrifices. And I just don't like the way we (America) seem to be losing at the very industries we created. We need a few "wins".
