I don't know why I didn't think of asking you guys, I have been asking
everyone I know. I am thinking of buying a welder, and I have recently
decided (sort of) to go with the Eastwood Mity Mite stick welder with
their stitch welder. I say sort of because I am not sure if it will work
well with sheet metal-- which is all I am going to use it for. I don't
think I need to invest more than twice as much money in a MIG welder only
to weld body panels and floor pans. BUT... Has anyone used this setup?
Eastwood SAYS it's good for sheet metal, but how well does it work? Is
it as easy as they claim with the stick welder? I have used a MIG before
and it's fairly easy, but I have no experience with sticks. Also, will
this work on aluminized exhaust-- it's not all aluminum so I don't know
if I need aluminum wire (do they make sticks?) or what. If anyone has a
better suggestion or maybe a welder to unload, let me know. Thanks.

Don't do it. I've used their spot-weld attachment, and it SUCKS! That
thing couldn't get penetration at all, just HOLES! I'm sure the stich
welder is of equal uselessness.
It pays to have the job done by a professional. Or even a
semi-professional. I ended up having a semi-pro come out to MIG weld my
front inner fenders and radiator support. He didn't "rosette" weld, but
did 1" segments along the perimeter. If you're not looking for the welds,
you won't notice them. I paid him $60 for the job, which appears to be
"good enough". After all, my car is a rust bucket.
Try to find a local independant welder. Call your local Mustang club, post
messages on your local newsgroups (it's how I found the guy who welded for
me), or your best bet might be to take the car to your local junior
college, where they might even do it for free!
Just avoid the Mighty-Mite at all costs. And try to avoid welding it
yourself, ESPECIALLY body panels. You cannot use a stick-welder on a car.
It just doesn't work. You *NEED* the gas!
But if you're stubborn, I've got a small welder similar to the Mighty-Mite.
It's made by Chicago Electric. I'll sell it cheap!
