Came across this site tachman.com/ford.htm. Seems to have all
the answers on tachs. I got curious about where the 67 factory tachs were
located...did they put it where the fuel/amp gauges are in models with auto
trans? Mine is and automatic and I have never actually seen the instrument
cluster in a manual 67.

I bought a "mini-tach" from an Australian ebay seller. It mounts behind the dash where the usually empty "clock" spot is on the '67 & 68 Mustangs. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like a good quality unit & looks great in the instrument cluster. He offers 6,000 and 8,000 RPM units.

Oh man, I'm drooling. I wish there was one like this for my 66 so I could
replace the worthless amps gauge!

This tach does look great in the '68 dash instrument cluster. I was
reluctant to post a direct link to this seller's auctions being fairly new
to the list. I can't afford to get kicked off for a no-no since I've got a
loong way to go before my coupe is finished.
I figured that just about any decent aftermarket tach would have cost that
much, and to have it blend with the rest of the instrument cluster was a big
bonus for me. Keep it simple...

The 67 tach looks just like the speedo, only 0-8000 instead
of 0-140 ... there's a picture here of mine... not very close...
edmunds.com/news/feature/general/42969/page12photo.html
I don't even know what a none Tach dash looks like....
