Mail From: chris (Chris Russell)
anybody know the approximate weight of a 1968 mustang convertible ? or
where I could find such information.
anybody know of a place I could weigh my car for cheap in the san francisco
bay area ?
I found a few places on the web that seem to put early mustangs in the
"around 3000lb" area.
I bought a g-tech and need to enter the weight so it can calculate horsepower.
Thanks,
Chris

Data point:
67 Coupe. No carpet or back seat or bumpers. Everything
else intact. With a boss 302 block and windsor heads,
4 point rollbar and gas tank with 5-10 gals
2798 lbs
Current weight is 3020. Changes from above:
New fuelcell with 20 gallons ( +165 lbs)
R302 block (+ 25 lbs)
So 3000 is ballpark, with the convertible top and seats
and bumpers, you may be right around 3100

Your CA DOT (offices and patrol vehicles) should have scales handy, and
I've weighed cars on drive-through scales (US DOT and state weigh
stations) on the expressways. I'd also try for a reading from the local
racetrack. If you ask politely they may weigh for free during a slow
period.
There is a frustrating way to do it at home, but it's a pain and a bit
involved and not necessarily very accurate. I don't recommend it, but
if you're a masochist...
FWIW,
David
