I am going to build a 351 EFI engine and AOD for my Mustang. I am looking
for advice on the parts to get for the EFI. There are several scenarios I
can think of.

1. Buy a 5.0 Mass Air and AOD combination for about $2200 USED. Put that in
the Mustang until I can rebuild the 351 and then get the 351 intake and make
the swap.

2. Rebuild the 351W and buy all new EFI components. I guess you would get
the components from FMS. Looks to be pretty expensive.

3. Buy a 5.0 Speed Density and AOD for $500. Put that in the Mustang until
I rebuild the 351 and then convert to Mass Air (about $500) and change to
the 351 Intake.

Any suggestions on costs?

Thanks

Don Franck

Much of my opinion would be based on the purpose of the EFI swap.=
Performance? Cool looks? Drivability? Don't get me wrong - I'm all for=
FI - but why are you swapping? And why, specifically, an AOD?

All the above. Drivability, Cool looks, Performance, Economy (It is my
daily driver) The aod/351 EFI with my 3.00 gears should give me 20+ MPG.

Just my 2=A2 here, but the SD system is just as capable as the MA. If=
you're looking for more than very mild mods, the SD would be better and=
cheaper. For big mods, SD will adapt infinitely. At stock levels, either=
will work fine, tho. Keep in mind that the AOD will have you cruisin' the=
highway at a high idle (figuratively) and any mods that raise the=
efficient RPM range of the engine may actually contribute to a loss of=
MPG. I ran into this when first piecing a T5 car together with 3.25's in=
the rear and a cam that would let the engine breathe up to 5800. The=
cruise RPM was too low for the engine and I actually got better mileage in=
4th gear until I lowered the rear to a level the engine was happy with. I=
had planned on that change (3.70's), but until I did it, I couldn't use=
5th gear except at speeds that the troopers took keen interest in... :-)

A complete and stock roller 351 from a PU would be a straightforward=
project.
