My 69 Mustang is now off the road for loads of work. I have the following
questions now it is all in bits.
1. I have purchased a lot of polyurethane bushes over the last year, and I
will soon be at the stage where I will be fitting them. I am a bit unsure
how to fit them to the following parts.
New lower control arm. How do I get the rubber bushes out.
Old spring perch, how do I also get these rubber bushes out.
2. How do I undo the end caps for the shaft pivot on the upper control arms.
I have soaked them in WD40 to try and loosen them up, but they look like
they will be a pain to remove. Is it easy to fit the new shaft kit that I
have got. I have two Mustang manuals, and they say that the shaft has to be
aligned in the upper arm before doing up the end caps.
3. If I refit all the new / rebuilt parts as close as possible to the
original settings, will I still have to get the front end alignment done.
4. Is it possible to fit a modern starter motor and alternator, so that I
can get rid of some of wiring / clutter in the engine bay. I am trying to
clean up the look of the engine under the bonnet ( hood ).
5. I am converting the front drum brakes to discs, do I have to replace the
hard brake lines, or will the current ones do the job. They are in perfect
condition and they look like they will mate up to the flexible brake lines.
6. The car will be standing still for a long time. Should I start the engine
every week to make sure it does not get neglected.
7. At a much later date, I am considering a change from the C4 auto to a T5
manual. I have heard a lot of bad press on the T5. Any comments. Can this
gearbox be fitted using a modern cable for the clutch. I don't like the idea
of the linkages that are used on the first generation manual Mustangs.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Jeremy.

Jeremy,
I cannot help you with all of your questions but I might be able to help
with some. First of all, to get the old bushings out, mostlikely you
will have to press them out, sometimes a bit of heat helps. If you
don't have a press, a vise and sockets of the correct size sometimes
works. Also, when you put the front end back together, ALWAYS realign
the front end. Even the smallest change can affect tire wear and
handling.
