This is a daily driver, occasionally raced, restomoded hot rod. The
thing I am mostly interested in is treatment to the undercarriage to
bulletproof the car and make the body last. Longevity and reliability
are my two main watch words. I am trying not to stray too far from
stock, but I am not a fanatic about it.

Sounds good. Do you have any suggestions for the "proper material"?
I am more interested in function than form, so something that is not
concours correct, but has maximum effectiveness would be more
attractive to me that the real thing that sacrifices function. Of
course, if the "proper material" does the best job, then that is the
best scenario of them all :-).
