I was wondering whether one of those temporary trailer hitches can be
easily hooked up to a '67 without damaging it.

I'd like to hook a trailer to my daily driver '67 convertible but I don't
want to risk damaging it...

If you just need to move the car one time, rent a tow dolly that
supports the front wheels.

To flat tow safely would require a tow bar to bolt on to the car
that is made for the car......don't know how readily available that
would be.

It would be simpler to just rent a dolly.

No, no - I want to use my Mustang to tow a trailer! I was just wondering
if it could be done without me having to install a trailer hitch...

I guess it's natural to assume I wanted to tow the Mustang itself! <g>

Yikes! Don't hook anything to the bumper!!

The bumper on the 67/68 Mustang is not strong enough to support the
weight of a person, let along support or tow a trailer!

I recommend installing a unit underneath the frame and use a Reese
hitch that makes it disappear bascially when not in use.

On the subject of Trailering, I've seen it done with 65-68's,

and it is found that you need to weld a special unit underneath the rear
subframe,
and then bolt the apparatus to this welded piece when wanting to tow. It
works very well, but I would not suggest it with a car that has rear frame
rust, unless of course you don't mind whatever it is you're trailering to get
a mind of its own when you're traveling on the highway at 60+MPH. I don't
think that the guy driving behind you would be too happy. Oh No! That was
my trailer in my rearview mirror hitting those two cars and that divider I
just passed! sad smiley )

The 65-68 Mustang trailer hitch was a dealer added option (I think), Ask Mr.
Fomoco
what the part# was, or where you can get a similar replacement, He should
respond as soon as he reads this, beacause I don't have the foggiest Idea
where they sell these suckers nowadays..

Tony.

I'm not sure what "I don't want to risk damaging it..." means
but the trailer hitch I have requires two holes in the bumper to
support the hitch, one hole in the rear valenace for the
electrical, and two more holes in front of the gas tank to
support the front hitch mount.

Mom and Dad would haul us all over California/Nevada trailering
a popup camper trailer. I do remember Mom throwing soup cans at
a BIG (seemed big at the time) brown bear in Yosemite.

I think it is a TowRite brand. This thing was installed long
before I can remember (dealer installed?) and has held up well.
It even protected the my wife in a rear end collision. Only the
bumper got bowed.

Now, it generates a few laughs at the local autoX...

Jeremy,

You will probably have to drill 2 holes in the bumper and 2-4 holes in
front/back of the gas tank to install the hitch. The ones in the trunk
will be covered by your trunk mat. You can find a junk bumper at a swap
meet to use when you want to tow. Or use yours and get a nice new
chrome one for show. Anyway, I have several hitches from cars I have
parted through the years and you're welcome to one - FREE, Really. If
you're nearby, just come pick it up. Or I can ship it to you at cost. I
am near Omaha, NE. Offer open to anyone on the list. Quantities are
limited. I just hate to throw good junk away.

Thanks,
Mark

EEEEKKKKK..... I hope everyone understood the context of this reply...
I dont think Mark meant "2-4 holes in the front/back of the gas tank"
literally....

Just to make sure... You want to drill holes "in front of" or "behind"
the gas tank, not "in the gas tank".

I'm sure you all caught this... but living with E-mail for way too many
years has proven time and time again that someone will interpret things
wrong given the chance...
