hi guys,
i'm going to solve this, can you offer any advice?
the rear brakes from a 72 Ranchero, 10x2.5, will bolt up to an early
Mustang rear end housing just fine. but the center hole on the R-brake
drums is larger than the one on the 8" M-axle flange. so the drums don't
get centered properly. they need to, or bad things will happen.
i had to go to the JY to get some misc items and saw a 72 Ranchero with
it's brakes hanging just by the parking brake cable. looked like someone
wanted the axles and left the rest. i noticed that the backing plate holes
looked suspiciously close together, like our Mustang. just before it was
junked someone had done a brake job and all the parts were like new.
hmmm, 10x2.5 brakes on the back would make the Mustang stop really
well. so i went home and brought back the plate gasket. sure enough, the
bolt pattern matched. woo hoo, home free.
fast forward through several days of parts cleaning, new shoes and
drums from the store. not to mention new tires and wheels, 15x7 mags,
2256015 rubber. so yesterday was the day, install all new suspension
and new brakes front and rear. yee haaa ! we finally get to work with all
new, clean parts. after days and days of cleaning brackets and parts my
son was really jazzed. and so was i.
Granada swap got done up front, minor glitches but my son learned how
to do it. rear brakes got done, went on like a champ, the boy learned to
curse the springs just like his old man
it was going to be a great ending to the day, the Mustang would finally
be sitting on her own tires! then we slid the rear drums on, and the center
hole is too big; and the lug holes are slightly too large too. there is nothing
to keep the drum centered on the end of the axle
(
so, i need a 10x2.5 drum with the smaller hole
or a sleeve to go over the flange
or drill the axles for bigger studs
what do you think ??

I haven't gone out to measure the rear drums, but the fronts you removed
for the Granola swap may fit. I'm not sure the year of yours, but the
fronts on my old ones have about a 2.4" center hole and .6" stud holes,
10" diameter and 2.5" shoe width. I didn't measure offset. Maybe that
helps?
