A previous owner did a really bad tint job on the glass of my 65 Stang.
Does anyone have any tips as to what the easiest way to remove it might be?
thanks
Jesse

I have no experience with this, but a friend who purchased a
Mitsubishi 3000GT vr-4 had a similar problem. The previous owner had
tinted the side and rear glass so much that it was next to impossible
to drive the car at night safely. He was told by the Mitsubishi
dealer to use a hair dryer on it. Apparently the heat would cause it
to bubble enouigh to peel off. He hasn't tried it yet

I just recently removed all the tinting on my Cherokee and it is a royal
pain. You will need a blade from a razor knife and some adhesive remover. As
much as possible, try to peel the film off in large sheets. Only use the
razor when you have no other choice.
Once you get the sheets off, you need to clean off the adhesive. There is a
product called "Goof-Off" which, when soaked into a paper towel will melt most
of the adhesive. I found that following up with VM Naptha will clean the rest
of the goo.
Be careful and don't let those chemicals get on the upholstery or painted
surfaces. DON' T USE ACETONE!! If you spill any of that stuff it WILL bleach
out the vinyl or paint and you will be sorry.

Hi Jesse,

Heat is the key.........Using a good hair dryer, the trick is to get the
tint as hot as possible. This releases the adhesive and allows you to
pull the tint off in large, almost complete sections. Also, very little
residue will be left on the glass. Basically, start by heating up part
of one window, concentrating on one edge of the tint. Using a razor
blade, *carefully* lift as large a portion of this heated edge as you
can. Keeping the hair dryer concentrated immediately ahead of the tint
that has lifted, use your fingers and steadily but gently start pulling.
The tint should peel off quite easily. If you don't get it hot enough,
you'll know it since the tint will just come off in thousands of sliver
sized pieces !
