I went to the Ford dealer last year and bought the damper key and oil
slinger from them, they had both in stock for a 66 289.

Hi all,

Just a week ago my Mustang refused to start one morning. Finally found that
the timing chain slipped aparently when cranking the engine. I’ve decided to
go with a double roller chain and took everything out on Friday.

First of all when I took the damper out I found its cracked! When I took a
look at the crankshaft I noticed the key is badly damaged. From the marks on
the damper it slipped on the crank and split open. Looks like when they
installed the sprocket in the past they damaged the key. So now I need a new
damper, crankshaft key and maybe the oil slinger.

Can someone tell me where I can get this key as I can’t find it in any catalog
I have. (any tips on taking the old one out?) Would like to change the oil
slinger too but can’t find that either.

I feel lucky the chain slipped at my house and I found the damper and key
problem and did not have it completely fail.

Thanks for reading. I’m sure I’ll have more questions before I put it all
together.

Thanks a bunch,

Patrick Stott
