Wow! What a week this has been on the list. We must have had a full moon,
spring fever, Mustangs in heat, or something... I don't think I've ever
laughed so hard at some of the exchanges we've had the past few days. I've
also learned a great deal. Allow me the chance to digress briefly.

One thing that came out of these discussions is that there are at least four
kinds of people on the list. (1)The somewhat-less-than-knowledgeable, (2)the
ones who know something because they had to learn it the hard way, (3)the
ones who learned/heard/seen/read/experienced something and think that now
has made them an expert, and (4)the experts who KNOW a great deal about
their subject either because it's their job or because they've been willing
to learn from others over the years.

In general I think everyone on the list probably goes through being 1,2, and
4. This is the reason we're all here. I had NO idea how octane ratings were
obtained what they meant or anything else. I was under the same
misconception a lot of us apparently were under...that higher octane meant
more power. I didn't use it because I didn't feel the need for it. I have
friends who run "race gas" (105 octane $5.00+/gal) because their engine was
designed for it.

The whole point being. Let's not get our feelings hurt if someone steps on
our toes by dispelling a closely-held belief, or shows there is more than
one way of doing something. If someone calls you on being a #3, allow them
the privilege of proving you wrong. If it turns out they're a "real" expert,
bow out gracefully and let it die...if not prove them wrong...w/o the
smart*ss remarks. I've probably been a #3 sometime in the past, and probably
will be again, but I really hope I have the where-with-all to admit it, and
let it slide.

Time to greasy and learn...anybody know how to teach a 16-month old how not
to beat daddy's knee with the socket-wrench?

Off-the-soap-box,
Jonathan

Jonathan -
Same problem with my 14 month old. Not so concerned about him hitting me,
its contact with the mustang that scares me...... I found a "foam" hammer
with a "sqeaky" in it at Toys R Us. Serves double duty - when I'm under the
car he can smack me and the mustang all he wants with no injury to either,
and most importantly, the squeak helps me determine where he is in the garage
when I can't see him!
Good Luck!

Thanks Jonathan, and my sincere apologies to anyone whom I may have
offended. I certainly hope that my comments, specifically about gasoline,
and several months ago, about spring rates were not presented as expert
comment. I ask questions, and some would say argue, to learn.
