The question resonates through the list. FWIW on sound - Our Mustang runs
DynoMax Super Turbos with 2 1/4" pipes w/ crossover and dumps in front of
the rear axle. It has a nice rumble tone that you can pick out from about
1/3 of a block. Has a strong sound without really disturbing the peace.
My wife really likes it and it's her daily driver. The Falcon has Flowtech
Afterburners, 2 1/2" pipes, no crossover, dumps in front of rear axle. It
has more of a "Flowmaster" sound with sounding like a Flowmaster. A lot
louder than the Super Turbos I had on it. I like it, interior things buzz
at idle and low speed, but it has a nice tone at cruise speed that is not
excessively loud in the interior. Probably could be about 1-1.5 dB louder
for me. I still miss my old Thrush header muffs. If I could find an old
pair of 2 1/2" x 15 or 18", I'd swap in a minute.

Sorta. Thrush now belongs to DynoMax. They still sell glasspacks, but
they are red bullets and the largest internal pipe is 2 1/4" (even though
the ends are sized to 2 1/2"
but it comes only in a 48" model. I'm
refering to the old "tin can" looking glass packs. The closest thing I've
found so far are the Dynomax race bullets. Those are not quite as
"mellow". Waxing too nostalgic here.

Just went thru the summit catalog and they sell lengths from about 15" to 40"
, I put the 2 1/4" x 24" on my sons truck last year. The 2 1/2" does come in a
24" model, and the 3 1/2" comes in a 30" model.

You are correct. A review of the catalogs shows that I'm only partially
senile. The new glass packs do come in a 24" (28" overall) with a 2 1/2"
inlet. I did not purchase those because, according to the catalog, they
have only a 2 1/4" inner tube. No so hot for performance. They faked me
out back when, because a review of my old 1993 catalog shows that there was
a 15" (24" over all) slip on muff with a 2 1/2" inlet and a 2 1/4" outlet.
So, it was either a tapered pipe or a stepped flange in the front. So much
for my memory. I focused on performance, so I wanted to stick with a 2
1/2" system all the way through. It looks like Dynomax carefully
controlled the Thrush glasspack specs so as not to compete with their race
bullet style muffler. I can see that since the race bullets cost about $60
each.
