A few weeks ago, my driver's side door in my 1967 Coupe starting acting =
up. It would become very hard to open, it would open from the inside, =
but not the outside, etc. Instead of fixing it immediately, like I =
should have, I kept "forcing it" to open by pulling very hard on the =
handle. =20
Now the door is locked and won't open. The lock will not pull to =
unlocked despite putting pliers around it and using all my might. The =
outside push button does nothing, it moves but requires no force =
whatsoever so I'm sure it is disconnected. The inner handle is screwed =
up as it is in the up (open) position but is doing nothing. Therefore, =
it is disconnected.
I took off the door panel and just realized that I'm screwed. I've got =
a broken door latch, but can't open the door to get to it. Even from =
the inside, you can't get to it. I can see the teeth of the latch, but =
can't really get anything in there to move them, and even if I could, =
the door is still locked, so I don't know if it would do any good. =20
My Mustang is in very good shape so I'm reluctant to pull the door open =
with a winch and just let whatever breaks, break. =20
Anybody have any ideas how I can open my door?
Thanks,
=20

hi Walter,
do it the hard way, remove the door. while the most labor intensive
method, it will be the safest way to avoid damaging your car.
this will entail removing the front fender to enable you to unbolt the
door hinges. and you have to remove the bumper before the fender
comes off. put lots of masking tape on the seams so that you
don't chip the paint.
i know it sounds like a lot of trouble, but it can be done on in half
a day if you plan correctly. also try to have a helper. four hands
in this case are better than two...

I don't know if it's anything like a '69, but on mine I just removed the
inner door skin, reached inside and pulled on the latch thingy and it popped
open.
