I just had one question that my Haynes auto repair manual isn't answering
for me... I need
to know how to hook up the power for my radio and police scanner.
Specifically, I have found
two unused wires under the dash I assume are involved, but I'm not sure how.
First wire is red,
with a flat triangular plug (also red) with three female bullet plug
openings. The other is
what appears to be a black wire (possibly with a green stripe, but its
raining like fach outside
and I don't want to get soaked right now, heheh) with a yellow female bullet
connector at the end.
I believed that the red wire was a positive which feeds whatever toys I want
to install, and the
black was a ground for the radio... But I've found that they are both
positive leads. From scanning
the wiring diagram I think I've determined that the black wire is for the
radio light, but I don't know.
So, my questions are 1) What exactly are the red and black wires for, and 2)
where the heck do I ground
the radio and whatever else I put in? Right now, I don't have a radio but I
have put on a scanner.
I've found that if I hook up the positive and negative to the red and black
wires (doesn't matter which
goes where), all that happens is that the interior lights go on. Weird.
But if I ground it to the
under dash interior light, it works perfectly. I would prefer not to ground
it to this light since it
gets hot as fach and its a little bit hinkey (I have to play with the dang
light to get it to ground
correctly). Thanks for the help!
