I just replaced my steering box with a Flaming River Unit. It's the
greatest thing since sliced bread!

Anyway, I cant seem to get my steering wheel back on all the way down to
where its supposed to be. There's like a 1/4" gap between base of wheel &
the column. The retaining nut is on until the top of the shaft is flush
with the top of the nut, but I can't tighten it any more. It steers fine
and the turn signal cancelor is working, but the horn doesn't work. I'm
thinking it's because It's not down far enough to make contact.

I've got two steering wheels, both with the same problem. So what do I do?
How do I get the wheel seated all the way down?

Thanks
DAVE

Loosen the two nuts which attach the steering column tube to the dash and
slide the tube up and retighten.

Ah, I had this problem too, what I did was slide the
steering column up a little, I believe the column is
designed the way it is to be adjustable like that.

This fixes the gap, but doesn't explain why the horn's not working. Remove the wheel and put a fresh layer of grease on the horn contact rings. Reinstall the wheel and spin it a couple of times. Then remove it again. If you can see where the horn contact marks are in the grease, you know the wheel is down far enough down. The problem then must be in the wiring, horns, or fuse.

Thanks for everyones help. I moved the column up a bit, and it not only
fixed the gap, but the horn works now. It seems that the gap was the reason
for the horn not making good contact.
