These steering wheel Q's & A's couldn't have been better timed.
I've been trouble shooting the horn on my '67 and found the
problem to be at the button itself. In the process I discovered just
how badly cracked my wheel is in several places from the hub to
the forks of the wheel. I've heard of people who repair them and I
assume a NOS (if available) would be very costly. Any feedback
on repros , NOS, or repairs is appreciated. It is a black standard
wheel.

A typical price for NOS black would be $150 - $200;
that doesn't sound too bad, does it?

Repros are available from $150 up. I've seen steering wheel repair
offered by several companies like Dallas Mustang Parts and Orlando
Mustang. When I decided to chuck the standard wheel in my '67 convert,
I got a Deluxe woodgrained wheel from a local swap for $20. It needed
repair. Dallas Mustang refinished it for $160 with real wood. An NOS
center button and horn matching my 6F (deluxe saddle) interior set me
back another $35, but completed the package. At $215, I think it was
well worth it. Please note that this was 4 years ago.
You have several options:
1) NOS if you can find it $$$
2) Repro $150-$200
3) Refurbish yours
a) send out $150-$200
b) Do it yourself < $50
The Eastwood company sells a "Steering Wheel Restoration Kit" for $21.95,
$34.95 with steering wheel puller. It includes the book "The Steering
Wheel Restoration Handbook" which is available separately for $12.00
The repair is based on an epoxy called PC-7; the guy at Orlando Mustang
who does the repairs told me that's what he uses.
4) After market wheel $95 - $$$$
Grant makes some nice ones. And there's a real wood wheel sold by
all the mail order houses for $89 - with a Mustang emblem.
5) Go to a swap and see what's available used.
BTW, don't fall in love with an original Shelby wood steering wheel. I've
seen them sell from $600 to $2,500.
Just an FYI: I must be steering wheel crazy: I just had the wheel from
my SVO re-done. It came out great for $200, by the SVOOA. For Mustang
leather wrapped wheels from 83-86 the same service is available. Contact
me off-line and I'll put you in touch. We are doing another Steering
Wheel run, and shift knobs & boots too. More participants = cheaper price.

Isn't the black standard steering wheel for '67 still available from Ford?
I bought one several years ago, and its still listed in the National Parts
Depot '97-'98 catalog for $179.

Especially when you consider, most of the people restoring the wheels charge
between $150-$200.
