Hi all,
I need a small quantity (just to paint inside the trunk) of a Ford colour -
Aztec Aqua (1969 code E). I think 69 was the only year they offered this
colour, so I've probably got a slim chance of finding an after-market can.
Any clues as to how I could get hold of such a thing? If I get a sprayer,
how easy is it to get a paint shop to mix up a colour like this?
Thanks,
Chris.

If you can find a spray can, the results will be significantly less
than mediocre
. Your best bet is to borrow a friend's spray gun and
have the local shop mix you up a real small batch of it. Will cost
more than a spray gun but it will also look right in the end.. Plus if
you don't mix it all you'll have some touch up paint leftover.

I professionally restore vintage electric guitars to their original
condition. Fender and Gibson painted their guitars with car colors of the
50's and 60's so I am always in search of small quantities of old paint
colors. Most auto paint stores can custom mix and load the paint into a
16oz spray can usually between $8 to $15 a can.
good luck

Not true if you have the paint mixed and loaded in to a spray can the spray
tips have adjustable fan tips it is not the same tip on a can of regular
spray paint. The final determinant of the quality of the job will be the
person spraying the paint. If you know of a friend to loan you a gun I
would bet they know a little more about painting and let them do it.

I think what he meant when he said looking for an "aftermarket can"
was one of the $5-$8 deals you pick up at an auto parts store.. Might
be the same general color but will still look like krylon. As someone
else said, you can usually get a small amount like this mixed at a
paint shop for around $15...

Your prayers are answered!
There's a company in called Tower Paint that specializes in putting any
color ever produced for any automobile from 1930 to present in a 16oz
spray can. I got the Lime Gold Green for the overspray and trunk of my
67 Shelby GT350, Charcoal Black to refinish the fastback interior panels
and deluxe seat backs of my Shelby; Medium Saddle interior color for the
dash of my 67 convertible; Burnt Amber for the trunk of my 67 conv. They
have
It costs $12.95 per can, or $9.95 if you order 6 cans or more; you can
mix colors. Just tell them the Year, Manufacture, Model, and Code or
name of the color/where it was used. They will custom match any color
you send a sample of. And they carry Dupont and PPG paints.
For example: Burnt Amber: 1967 Ford Mustang Code V exterior
Medium Saddle: 1967 Ford Mustang Code 6F interior
You can reach them at:
Tower Paint

Oshkosh, WI 54903-2345
(800) 779 6520
(920) 235 6520

Hope this helps.
