I've got an interesting problem for you guys...
I've been driving my '67 a bit since I've converted from a C4 to a
Toploader with the speedometer not working. I just noticed recently, the
the speedo IS working, but it's working backwards. The speedo needle is
pegged on zero while the odometer is counting down. (One of my friends,
always the thinker, says, "Hey, cool, lets go out and hammer it in
reverse!"
I was talking to one of my late-model freinds and he said
he's heard of the problem before, and I need a back-cut speedo gear. I
got a new gear out of another friend's '67 stick, with a reverse angle,
put in in, and it's still goin' backwards, just slower due to the
different ratios. What do I need to do to fix this problem? The fact
that the car's getting younger is nice, if not exactly legal, until I show
up for inspection with less miles than I had before! I'm just going to
disconnect it entirely until I can solve the problem. Please reply ASAP,
having no speedo is too much of an excuse for speeding, and I'm taking a
night class for Winter Session with a long deserted drive home...
Thanks in advance,
Brian Davison

I had the same problem on my '65, you'll have to change the gear on
the transmission tailshaft. It sounded like too much of a hassle to
me, so I've been driving without a speedo since 1979!

Just want to wish you God's blessings on those long trips. Take care.
