I've got a '68 vinyl top that's going to need replacing. Does anyone know how to remove those two chrome trim pieces at the rear 1/4 windows?
I'm almost afraid to see what's lurking under that vinyl.
Let me guess...more surface rust! Aaargh!
Thanks,
Mike

Keep us posted how it goes...i will need to replace mine as well at
some point. Does anyone know if the top (below the vinyl) just got
painted with the rest of the car before the vinyl went on. Or just
primered?

Most were painted, but if you've repainted the car since, expect it
not to match entirely. A good paint shop in theory, removes the vinyl
top to paint the car. The paint underneath hasn't seen the light of
day ever in most cases. I looked at a gold 67 coupe with a vinyl top
not long ago and the paint underneath the top (it needed a new one)
was almost factory new.

Gives you a great idea if your new paint is a good match for
factory...assuming the paint was original...

"I looked at a gold 67 coupe with a vinyl top not long ago and the paint

Most if not all of the ones I have removed showed not exterior color over the complete roof under the vinyl area. May be a difference in practices based on assembly plants
