What's the deal with the 71-73 convertible latches?

I see ads for the 64-70 latches and for the late model ones, but never
do you see 71-73.

Thanks.

Same thing with lots of '71-'73 parts. They're just now starting to become
popular/old enough for the aftermarket/repro guys to be making things for
them. Slowly but surely...

1971 through 1973...
For >70% of all things for the body and close to 90% convertible parts you will not find reproduction items, remanufactured, or new items...
...You will see reproductions of (almost) the entire car for 65-70 & 74-(and up) - we seem to own the forgotten darlings of the Mustang world.
This seems to be mostly true for Cougar parts as well.

If you need the latch mechanism, 71-73 Courger or Mustang, you will have big trouble finding them.

I had broken hook (attachment) plates from the mechanism to the hooks, both sides.
None of the Colorado places had any and I called or looked for over 6 months.
Every single place I contacted, their latches were broken, had been been scavenged for parts, or was completely removed.
I almost used the Hemmings search to locate them - you pay $xx for them to find the part, if they cannot find it they will refund your money.
My mechanic found a set of good latches (out of state) that also came with the header - for $750.00, before shipping.
This same mechanic decided to repair the latches for me - he did a great job.

I pass along to you a hear felt Good Luck!
These are nice cars, excpt when you cannot find a part.

The REAL orphans of the mustang world are the 74-78's. Good luck finding
ANYTHING for them.

79-93 are easy because the FOX platform was used for SOOOOO many years.
Your right about 64-70, you can darned near get a new body complete.

71-73 is somewhere in the middle.

I'm seeing more parts for them all the time.

Lance.

As a 69 convertible owner I would like to amend the "complete car" years to
64-68. There are quite a few 69-70 only parts that are hard (not
impossible) and a few that are not available.

I agree with all of you, but while I can buy a practically complete
repro body for my '68, there are parts that I can't get, like A/C parts.
These seem to be pretty rare.

Not that I'm complaining. I like the fact that it's cheaper to maintain
my '68 than it is to maintain a Yugo!

A/C parts are usually available from Classic Auto Air.

Take those orphans and add something like a Cobra II or a Mustang II
Mach 1. You'll find the holy grail before you find specific parts
for those machines.
