Hi all,
this is my first posting, so sorry for any mistakes. I have
bought 2 convertibles (65,66), which a guy had bought at an auction in
California and shipped to Australia. Both cars were pretty well stripped of
their interior prior to being re-sprayed (apparently some company
specialising in restoring classic cars went broke, hence the auction).
While a lot of the stuff I need seems available from the States (via
mail-order, I have catalogues from 2 outfits, Larry's Thunderbird & Mustang
parts, and National Parts Depot - does anyone have any recommendation?),
there is some stuff that I think I may only be able to get from a wrecking
yard (glass for the door windows, e.g). There is no way that anyone would
wreck a classic Mustang here in Australia, so the question is, does anyone
know/recommend a wrecking yard in the U.S. that would be willing to send
some stuff over here? I haven't got a full inventory of the things I need as
yet, but the list will be quite long, I think.
If anyone has any hints, or some contacts, any help would really be
appreciated. Also, I know that there is some Australian Mustang owners on
this list, so if any body out there thinks that they can help, let me know.

Maybe just drop me a line at (email redacted)

Thanks

Over hear in Perth West Aust, there is a wrecker who specialises in US
Fords, mostly
classic Mustangs/T'Birds. They also have new parts but you could buy/ship
them cheaper
yourself. I've have purchased from California Mustang and Mustangs Unlimited
via fax
or phone using a credit card with no major problems, try to get a shipping
cost for
surface and air mail as it could work out expensive eg-

I purchased some C-stripes for my 68 GT from Mustangs Unlimited for US$49 +
shipping of
around US$19 for surface (6 weeks delivery), they arrived a few days later
via UPS
who wanted A$128 before they would hand them over. I payed the A$128,
contacted my CC
co. who wore the US$68. Otherwise no problems.

Oh yeah, the Perth wreckers is Wylde Mustangs ph (08)9375 9919.

Your other option is to find a US based parts buyer, havn't done this but I
know its done.

Hope this helps

You can contact the yard directly but few will make the effort to ship
and box. ... you also have to find one that has the parts you need. You
could also contact a few of the "diggers" that hunt the wrecking yards
for parts for other peopl. There are a few of these people who make thier
living in Calif (your best bet IMHO) There seems to a few Australians
and New Zealnders here in the country (legal and illegal) doing this
also.

I could likley put you in contact with a few since I no longer have much
time to run parts for other than my long term customers/friends

Lutz,

I understand that Mustang Country out of Paramount, CA has quite a few
customers "down under" that they deal with and ship to all the time.

You might want to give them a call (562) 633-2393. I am not affiliated
with them but have done quite a bit of business with them myself, and
always get very good service and advice.

Best of Luck in your restoration efforts.
