I am thinking of installing a set ofthose sequential tail lights they
have for the older Mustangs. I am wondering if you have to put in high temp
tail light lens when you do the LED lights due to the high temps they generate?
Also...if anyone has put them in, what place did you find the best price?

LEDs don't generate nearly the heat the regular bulbs do. LEDs are
about 10% efficient, which is pretty sad until you realize that the
bulbs we're using now are < 1% efficient!

I replaced my regular tail lights with LED lights I made myself from 45
high brightness LEDs per side (now they have much higher brightness LEDs
so you wouldn't need so many, but these were a good deal in price per
lumen).

My power consumption went from 40 watts (when the brake and parking
light filaments are on) to 4 watts total and the light output (in
lumens) is 4X what it was! They barely get warm now. Add to that the
added benefit of quicker turn on (at 70 mph, .1 seconds counts!) and
it's a great deal. It's so great for people to actually be able to see
my brake lights in daylight easily.

Not all LED conversions are good. I've heard mixed results from the
guys who try regular LED bulb type conversions (the ones that plug into
the old bulb sockets). Some will burn out too since they drive the LEDs
too hard. If properly driven (the LEDs, not the car!) they'll last
forever.

Best regards,

Keven Coates

I bought a set from CJ's Pony Parts at the Carlisle All Ford Show in June
for $139. The manufacturer is Northwest Mustang. I am Very happy with the units.
They are very bright and the sequential feature works well. I had an old set
I bought in '04 from Mustang Project. They are not as bright as the MP units
have less LEDS (only 18 compared to over 60 on the Northwest units. Also the
MP sit farther away from the lens.

I get comments all the time about how cool they look.

Mark

No high-temps needed.

I got mine from Mustangs Plus on a monthly special. THere is a
complete write up on the wiki of the install.

I second that on the Northwest Mustang sequentials. They're very bright, and
easy to install. They also look fantastic from behind. I too got mine from CJ
Pony parts & paid around the same as Mark.

As far as heat, I don't know where you got the idea that LED's are hot. They're
almost as close to cool light as you can get.

There is pretty much NO heat coming from them. I can easily hold my hand on the
LED panel when they're fully lit and barely feel warmth. Try THAT with a bulb.

Lance.
