Hey everyone,
I am in the process of putting my 65 Coupe back together and am having a
problem with the passenger door (actually the problem existed before I
took the door off). It has a real hard time latching closed. It will
after repeated attempts. It will also always close correctly if I hold
it closed and, with the key, lock the door.
Anybody know what this might be from?
Also did I not line something up right because at the back of the door,
on the bottom, it goes in too far. . .
any help appreciated,
Joshua Meeks

Joshua,
The hinges need to be adjusted, probably rebuilt as well. Check a parts
catalog and look for hinge repair kits. They run $15-$20 a door. You
have to take the hinges off both the body and the door. The hinges are
suposed to have some play in them so you can adjust the way the door
sits when closed. I think the reason the door doesn't stay closed is
maybe the latch is sticking (age). Clean it and use some light grease
and it should be ok.

Joshua,

It sounds like your latch assembly is bad.

Did you check your door pins. You can replace them with oversized ones from your Ford
dealer for a few dollars. Also the striker plate is adjustable.
