Bernie,
You need to buy a special tool to remove the trim. It slides
underneath the trim and hooks into the clips below. As you rotate the tool
left or right, the pressure between the clip and the trim piece is
released, and you can lift the trim up. (unless someone before you had
globed sealant under there and the trim piece is stuck in it.) Be very
careful pulling the trim up - it's easy to put a kink or bend in it. I
would use a putty knife to spread out the force. The removal tool is
available at most auto parts stores, is about $5, and looks like a handle
with a large arrowhead on it. Good luck!

along the same lines as this message, I have a 65 fastback that doesn't have
the trim installed. I attempted to install it a year ago and the small
"tabs" that the clips clip onto are no longer there. There are holes where
the tabs are supposed to be. Are these tabs removable? or did somebody
remove more than they were supposed to when they removed the trim. I have
had the car for many years and it has never had the trim installed. By the
way, both the front and rear windows do not have these tabs.

Thanks for any info.

Jess

Jess,

It has been a while since I installed trim, but if I remember correctly there
are small "heads" that the clips install onto (kind of like the head of a
nail). You can purchase the clips from virtually any Mustang vendor, but the
trick will be to find the "nailheads" that the clips install onto; you'll
probably have to remove the windshield to find them.

Dave,

Thanks for replying. I guess that I wasn't very clear. These "nailheads" that you are referring to are what is missing. I discovered them "gone" when I removed the front and back glass for a paint job. Any ideas how to go about replacing them??

Thanks,

Jess

Jess, After my paint job, I had a local glass shop install my window
trim. They had all the little clips and such, I just provided the new trim.
It only cost a few dollars and it was a "Come on back, this won't
take long" type of job for them.

I'd call/visit a glass shop in your area.

Jess,

I reread your message and I missed the fact that the nailheads were missing; you were clear. I just found out what you'll probably consider promising news. Some 65/66s didn't have the "nailheads" for the trim attaching clips; the clips were held in
with screws (my '66 had both). You could probably secure the moulding clips with the screws...but that would mean the windshield would have to come out.

Jeff,
Are these clips the same as the front windshield? The front windshield trim
came off easily, the back is a pain, as the trim tool just digs in to the
rubber gasket underneath the trim.
