Rear shocks on my 65

I'm changing the rear shocks in my Mustang. I've gotten them out fine and put
the spring around the new shock. It's all clamped in place and everything,
but I can't compress it to get it back in now. I had to unclamp the spring to
get the old shocks out, but there doesn't seem to be a way to clamp the
spring into place after putting the shock in. Any and all help is greatly
appreciated.

Spring around the shock? Are you talking about aftermarket
helper springs? They don't belong there on a stock Mustang.

I would leave them off. But you should be able to clamp them
on after installing the shock. Depends how long they are I suppose.
I haven't seen helper springs in 30 years...

Wow! Thanks a lot man! I thought something wasn't right because they were
kind of denting the old shock, so I figured it wasn't OEM. I think I'll just
leave them off since they're not necessary. You just saved me from wasting my
time making a spring compressor. Do they make any real difference in the ride
or the life of the shocks?
