I thought it was just me who noticed 'vette owners (at least the ones in
clubs) tend to be the world's biggest asses? okay, okay...I know _one_
cool vette owner. the rest are like the people from the porsche
club--only poorer, and pissed about it.

Actually the Vette club members I know are OK. A couple of them could turn
out to be my future mother/father-in-law and uncle/aunt-in-law. It cerainly
would help to get along with them, eh?
"Dad" actually did a nice job restoring a 66 Coupe for one of his friends
even though he normally does Corvettes. He even tried talking me into
buying one of *them*, but understands that I prefer Mustangs.

Even if I could afford a Porsche, wouldn't want one (except maybe the turbo
model).

I said that same line at the 'vette meeting...do you have _any_ idea how
hard it is to get cabernet stains out of a white t-shirt? ;-) and the
numerous pimp-slaps I received didn't scar too bad, but man, did they
sting!
having picked on you, let me heartily recommend either a 944t (all years
have good points) or a 930t. both are well worth the price of admission,
and it's considerably cheaper than that of the 'vette. throw 'vette money
at either of them, and you'll have a car that's _lots_ faster, and nobody
else will have one either.

Ahhhh, But I know where you can get a nearly restored 924 for $2K, or a 914
for $1500. I love my Mustang, but I love cars in general, and if I had the
room for another/had the money/could afford "exotic repair parts"/could pay
insurance on a Porsche, I'd buy it. There are even some GM and ChryCo cars
that I wouldn't mind owning! (sorry?)

I've been in love with the Mustang since I was a little kid. My best friend's
Mom had a 67 with a vinyl top that did me in. A few years back I owned the
nicest car I had ever had the pleasure of driving. An 85' Jaguar XJ6 Series
III. It was beautiful inside and out with new paint and new leather interior
and the wood was divine. The ride was so smooth it was hard not to fall
asleep and I could have the moon roof open in the middle of winter and the
cars climate control would still keep the temp in the car at 72 degrees for
me. I traded the Jag for my 67 Fastback and gave a few grand more for the
pony on top. Since, the buyer has invested $8k into a car that was almost
perfect and it is still worth less than my Pony, and always will be. It took
close to two weeks for me to chance the freeze plugs in my Jag in the
evenings after work...the pony 1 day. Changing the brakes on the rear of a
Jag...$1,500 as the disks are inline and require about 18 hours work. A few
hours tops on the stang and leaves me with a lot more spending money.
Insurance is cheaper too. I was rear ended 3 times in the Jag and a new rear
bumper is around $3K for the whole thing. My stang has never been hit, but a
new bumper is under $100. I can easily work on the Ford too. I gave up a lot
of buttons and power steering and still love Jags, but if I won the lotto
tonight...my new garage would be full of Mustangs. Everyone winds up throwing
a 350 in the Jags anyway. I love Fords!
