Hi everyone,
I am having nothing but troubles with my power steering. When I first got
my 65 Stang (about 2 months ago), the power steering control valve leaked.
So, I rebuilt it, but did not replace the seals. STUPID ME! Well, needless
to say, it still leaked. So, I replaced the seals.
Now, it does not leak, but I am having another problem. You see, I hooked
up the new pump tonight, and filled it with fluid. However, when I try to
turn the wheel the power assist works when steering right, but not at all
when steering left.
So, I ran to the store, and just as I was getting home, the power assist
stopped working all together even when turning right. I checked, and it is
still full of fluid, and not leaking a drop. Any one have any ideas on this
one? Thanks!!!

Ryan,
Left vs. right steering effort on V-8s is controlled by a small nut on the spool
bolt. You can get to this nut by removing the spring cap on the end of the
control valve. Loosen the nut to improve assist to the right. Tighten the nut
to improve assist to the left. Make your adjustments in 1/2 turn increments.
If the assist has failed completely I doubt this technique will work, though.
Could be that the pump, slave cylinder, or control valve aren't working.
