Was the power steering cooler standard on all '71's (mine's a Mach) with
the 351C engine?

I have not been able to find the definitive answer..... what I
do know is this:

- There was no separate PS cooler option, at least not that I could
find in any magazine article or several reference books.
- The invoice for my Boss 351 shows "included options at no extra cost"
..
. Special cooling
. Comp Suspension
..
- My 71 Shop manual does not mention the PS cooler anywhere
I could find..... but then again, it also says a G code is a Boss
302 and has no R code engine .. early printing perhaps

So what I believe is that the PS cooler was part of the special
cooling option, which was standard on Boss 351... one of the
magazine writers was surprised by the PS cooler. Goes on to talk
about high RPM.....

So I don't believe the cooler was standard on any 351C. My memory
tells me my 72 Mach I 351C had the cooler, but I could very well be
wrong. I have no paperwork or photos to show anything. I sold that
car in 1980 for $3200.

Well, what I'm hearing more & more is that it was reasonably common on A/C
cars with 351's in general, which would tend to support the "special
cooling" thing. I've not heard of anybody who had it with a non-A/C car
(like mine is). So, I guess that answers THAT question...

Makes sense, as my 72 did have A/C .... so a cooler would
have been likely.

Walt,

My car (Q engine code Mach 1) with a 351C-CJ motor *did* have both the
competition suspension (staggered shocks, etc.) as well as the special
cooling (different radiator and PS cooler).

The cooling package is the key, and that means my 72
must have had it also..... wish I still had that one!
