In reference to Pony Carb's, save your money, as I have installed two
one AutoLite 1100 and one Autolite 4300 and have yet to get the bugs
worked out. The only response received from Pony Carbs is, this or that

is the problem, never the rebuilt carb mind you. They say engine
tested,
I'd like to know type or kind of engine they use. I also know of a 2nd
Autolite 4300 that when installed didn't run worth a hoot. That too
came
from Pony Carbs. Read and follow the directions they (Pony Carbs)
supply and you'll have no problems..... Dont' you believe it. Just
one
who has experinced Pony Carbs work and witnessed another.

Well, I have purchased a Pony 4100.

The cost was $200 plus shipping, $36.

(Their accessories are extremely expensive: dashpot, air clean stud, air
pipes etc... NPD has the same exact parts for less than half the price)

The carb rebuild is good quality and worked great! The high end power is
very good...however, it seems to have developed the inability to stay
running when cold (minor problem, the past month or so).

A standard rebuild from "XYZ Carburators", runs about $90 and they only
usually R&R the parts in the rebuild kit. (Never had good luck with these).

I have three 4100 cores that I rebuilt and I could never get the vacuum
secondaries to work correctly...the Pony one works great!

This seems to be true! Pony does not have much support via email...I don't
know what their problem is...but they don't answer email. I sent them a
email giving them my order (so I don't have to pay the toll charges to NY)
and they sent back a response to call them and make the order???? Duhhh!

I have emailed on a couple of questions: and I am still waiting for a reply
(its been a couple of months now)

I thought the directions enclosed were "excellent"

Another anecdote - I got a rebuild from Pony Carbs for a '66 289 and it
worked fine except for the wrong needle valve at the inlet, which I then
replaced with the correct one. However, they include a few pages of
instruction on attaining the proper timing of the engine, indicating that
many problems are related to improper timing. That may be so, but their
instructions were completely bogus. They indicated rotating the
distributor (at idle) until the engine idles fastest and that that is the
correct timing ... wrong! This will set the timing way too advanced (about
30 degrees BTC in my case).
