Hi,
my name is Ian i am 16 and last night, (friday), I got in a car accident.
I was traveling down a main street in my city (San Diego), going through a
intersection and a UPS truck just stops and i couldn't have stopped and i
tried to swerve and clipped him. I have a 1966 injured springtime yellow
coupe. My front right fender is gone, headlights, turnsignal, the frame is
bent, the tower is bent, underneath suspension, wheel bearings, rim, upper
and lower ball joint, bushings, and much else. I worked 2 summers straight
for my car. Everyday instead of doing homework (don't tell my parents) i
would work on that car. I poured my heart and soul into that car. It really
hurts that i mortally wounded my baby. Can someone please help me if they
have extra parts. I don't have much funds but i can give what i have. Thank
you very much for your time.

Ian,
sorry about the crash old fellow...i have your exact same car
(my dad bought it new) and i have been in your shoes!!a young girl
made a u-turn directly in front of me and i clipped my right front
also. i was crushed...i also could barely keep my hands off the
girls neck!! the police had their hands full!!
however,i hit a late
model mustang, destroying it with that classic steel mustang bumper and
did NOT damage my shock tower or frame.
anyway, my advice to you would be to get that frame checked out first
at a couple of different frame shops, for i'm not sure what the
success rate is on straightening out a uni-body car...
you may save a great deal of money by using the crashed car as a
parts car and buying another (it's not like they're hard to come by)
that way your old car can "live on" in your new ride

I'd have to agree with aj. Due to the extensive frame and tower damage you
describe, you might be better off with another car. If you had the tools
(welder, air chisel, sawsall, etc) you might be able to revive what you
have. That much restoration work at a body shop (not counting the
suspension parts) will probably cost more than a replacement 66. Very sad
for you.

You should definetely consider just using what you have for parts and
find another body. I pretty regularly see early-model bare shells for
a few hundred bucks around here - if you could find something like
this and use everything off of the old car (except the damaged
sheetmetal), it would probably be your best way to get it together
again. I hold a lot of value in my first '68 which I spent a year
building so I know what you mean about yours. As far as using a donor
shell - think of it like this. No, it's not technically the same car
as the first (well, it could be with some careful welding and a rivet
gun - but we won't get into that here), but it will contain a large
part of the original in all of the pieces that you use on it. That,
AND all of the time and effort that you would put into it while
assembling might even be better than the first.
Good luck!!!
