I'm still bugged about this whole TCP thing. I know I need to move on,
but I just want to rant one more time. I promise I'll keep quiet (for a
little while) after this.
TCP used to sell their KRC pump kit for $400 and now it's $800. There's
no doubt that the KRC pump is the hot ticket for this rack but I would
like to know what justifies the price increase? I did a little research
and found the KRC pump here:
secureperformanceorder.com/products/getproduct.cfm?CategoryID=8&ClassID=103&SubclassID=1231&ProductID=5061
For $280 you get the pump and reservoir. The mounting kit is another
$40. So, for $320 you get everything except the lines to connect to the
rack. Are you trying to tell me that TCP's lines are worth $480? Am I
missing some other piece of the equation or do they take us for fools?
OK, no more ranting for a while.

Hey Sebastian,
Perfect timing!
I just got back from a run in my 70 with TCP R&P conversion, to discover
that the stock P/S pump has got real noisy. Grabbing the pulley I can feel
that there is vertical play developed in the front bearing. The stock pump
has never really been a great success, with pumping hiss coming up the
steering column, and it struggles at times to deliver enough pressure/volume
when turning the steering rapidly from lock to lock.
Is the pump shown really the same as the KRC pump? The TCP version had
adjustable output pressure...
I completely agree with your comments about the new pricing. I struggled to
justify purchasing the rack at the original price (mine cost only $1400 and
TCP paid the freight to NZ), but at $2500, its right off the planet! There
HAS to be an opening here for someone to step in here with another product,
especially one that can be volume produced to get some sensible economies of
scale.
Cheers
Wal Marshall

OK, so maybe I jumped the gun a little bit. I assumed (Bad! Bad
Sebastien!) that the pump I was looking at was the KRC with the
reservoir attached. However, after checking it out again, it did not
have KRC before the part number. In fact, after a little more research,
it turns out that it's an Afco pump. If you go to
dragraceafco.com/ and follow the 'Front Suspension &
Steering' link, it will bring you to a similar page. There, it lists
the pump with the Afco part number. Stick with the KRC.
If you look at TCP's site, it lists the KRC 20000 as the pump to use.
It's listed at $219 with the V-belt pulley on Afco's site. You can
adjust the flow by changing the fittings, which is what TCP does. You
just need to figure out how much assist you want. I don't know which
one comes with the pump, but you should be able to easily find that
out. Add $40 for the mounting kit. A reservoir which is similar to the
one on TCP's site is about $72. You can even specify right or left hand
mounting, which should come in handy since your rack is right hand
drive. So now you're at $331 instead of $320. Still more reasonable
than the alternative. And since you have the rack installed, you
already know the length of the lines. All you need to know are what
fittings for the lines to use with the KRC pump.
Sorry for any confusion and hope this helps.

Sebastien,
> OK, so maybe I jumped the gun a little bit.
Not at all! You've done me (and others I suspect) a great favor, and made
your point about TCP pricing.
I also had a look at the site, and found a page on it that listed all the
pumps, Afco and KRC in a large table. The KRC 2000 was listed and, as you
say you can buy it with and without reservoir, with and without pulley etc
and I see an item called a "flow controller" which is probably the way to
control the output pressure. I wonder where TCP get their adjustable flow
controller.
Did you notice that seems to be no way to order items off this site on
line.. or did I miss something?
You can even specify right or left hand
> mounting, which should come in handy since your rack is right hand

Actually my rack is still left hand drive, as most Mustangs in NZ have not
been converted (Conversely most Australian Mustangs have been..different
regulations) ..I'm not sure if they make a right hand drive version..

I'm not sure if the pump that has the attached reservoir is a KRC pump.
You would have to verify that one. TCP adjusts the assist by using
different size fittings, which is the "flow controller." The pump comes
with one and I think TCP supplies another in their kit with a lower flow
rating. Since they're relatively inexpensive, you may want to purchase
a couple different sizes so that you can dial it in to your tastes.
> Did you notice that seems to be no way to order items off this site on

I had the same problem. I was given a direct link to the site which may
be why there's no place to order. However, if you go to
dragraceafco.com/ and click on "Front Suspension & Steering"
in the center of the page, you will get a listing of all the different
product groups. This was just one place I found, and by no means do I
endorse them in any way. There's also
charlottewheel.com/catalog/krc_power_steering.htm as another
example. I have no idea what their international service is like, but
you can always let us know if you choose to go this route.
To sum it up, everything TCP supplies in their kit consists of off the
shelf parts available from many race shops here in the US. You just
need to find the one who can supply you with the right parts for your
application and get it to you for a reasonable amount.
Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

Why not buy directly from KRC?
Try www.krcpower.com
You can buy pump kits (iron pumps) with bracket and reservoir for $225.
Aluminum pumps are higher.

It's a custom built rack. The housing, mounting hardware is all custom
made in order to correct for bump steer, clear exhaust, etc. However,
the power servo, which is probably the most important part of the rack
comes from Woodward Precision Power Steering:
woodwardsteering.com/
I don't know which model servo they use, but I can try and find out.
