To follow up to a post made related to the water pump change (AL to FE) and
overheating - I got the new engine in the Mustang last night and heat cycled
it once really good. For reference, it has a stock 24" radiator with twin
electric fans and a 180F t-stat. Ran the motor for about 20 minutes with
various loading to seat the new rings. Temp fully warm held steady at 180~185
with both fans running. After shutdown and heat soaking for 10 minutes, temp
rise was maybe 5F. That tells me I have a good head/deck seal, probably no
heating issues caused by super thin cylinder walls, no air pockets (fuild
level didn't drop after cooldown) and that the cooling system is working.
