I apologise in advance for asking a non-mustang question, but the folks on
this list are so smart and so resourceful that I am hoping someone can help
me out. My automatic garage door does not open properly when the weather is
hot (90+). Sometimes it opens 1/4, sometimes 1/2, sometime 3/4, sometimes
all the way. The door gets direct sunlight in the morning so the inside
temp can be 20 to 30 degrees hotter than outside ambient, which is often
above 100F in the summer. The normal kill switch is a mechanical lever that
gets tripped when the door opens all the way, so I know this switch is not
being tripped prematurely. It operates fine when the temp is cool, so
obviously the heat is the catalyst. Any ideas how to start troubleshooting
or finding the faulty part? The door is made by Overhead Door Co. if that
means anything to anyone. Thanks, and again, sorry.

I had a similar problem. In my case the door was expanding in the sun and
jamming against the framing on one side.

Some adjustments fixed it. Hopefully its that easy for you!

I'll check it out. Thanks!

Ha! I know someone on this list could help me!!!

BTW - I was feeling a little remorseful after I posted this question, but
then it occurred to me, if I can't get the garage door open then how can I
take the mustang out for a drive?!?!?! So this really was a BIG mustang
problem! (LOL)

Mike.

It sounds like it's binding and stopping because of the torque setting.
There should be an adjustment for adjusting it.

You've probably got one of two problems: either the
door is too hard to open when hot, or the motor is
becoming too weak. You can figure out which by
releasing the door "trolly" from the track (pull the
red handle) and lift the door. Also, if the opener
isn't centered on the door, try lifting the door both
in the middle and also at the point where the opener
lifts it. If the spring tensions are unbalanced, you
can wind up with too much lift on one end of the door,
especially if you're lifting from the
over-tight-spring side. That can cause the door to
torque slightly within the rails, which can cause
binding.

Also, be sure your door and opener are properly
lubricated so you're not overworking the motor.

Good luck!
