Welcome to the club.
Look under the dash and follow the cable from the Heat Selector to the
heater box. I suspect the cable may be broken, but it could have just
come loose.
OBTW - I'll go one better than Chris and give you $55 for the car and
come get it. Deal?

as Gordon said , the cable may have come loose. i had the same problem only
mine was a 33 year old cardboard heater plenum rotted away and the door
inside it wouldnt close off the heat.
either one of these is probably the problem since you stated that there
is little resistance in the lever.
