I currently have my car in for a paint job (JUBILANT ECSTACY!) and I have a
slight concern. I own cats. Now, before you question my sanity, be forwarned I
like these creatures very much. BUT, knowing their tendency to roost on any
immobile (and semi mobile) object they deem worthy, I know they will want to
camp out on my brand new paint job once the car is tucked safely (?) in the
garage. I don't feel like moving the litter box into the house to keep said
beasts out of the garage, so I need suggestions on how to keep them from getting
too comfy on the car cover. Any ideas (short of getting rid of the cats)???
Vertical sharpened pencils and other items of torture are completely out of the
question.

Thanx!!

What's the big deal with cats sleeping on your car cover?

At any rate, there is this thing called a "Scat Mat", it sends out an
adjustable pulse of electricity about every half second. The cat jumps on
the mat, gets a mild shock, then RUNS away. We've got one that is about
5'x2', and used it to train the cats not to sleep on the couches. After
awhile they get the picture. It's pretty damn humane, only a shock! I've
touched it =)

Reminds me of when I learned how to paint on my Dad's '62 Ranchero. Started in
the bed, and by the time I got around to the hood, I was doing a pretty darned
good job, if I do say so myself....

I had just finished spraying the hood (flawless job), and turned and bent over
to put the gun down. When I straightened up, I saw my large tom, Qat, standing
in the middle of the hood, wondering what this yellow sticky stuff on his paws
was all about. He had snuck into the garage, and hopped up on the hood.
Qat came soooo close to losing four or five lives that day, but restraint
prevailed, and he only got lobbed out the back door.

We keep a squirt gun by the garage door, and use it to train cats about
appropriate sleeping places. You have to be sneaky, and not always let them see
you, or they only move when you show up.
