I have a new noise. When I back up my '66, I get a "clunk" from the
left front when I apply the brakes. It is a '66 289, power steering
with drums all around.

I have adjusted the brakes (both manually and by repeated backing up and
applying the brakes), tightened and lubed the stabilizer bar bushings,
replaced the brake springs, replaced upper A-arms, replaced spring
perches, checked the torque of all front end components including drum
backing plate nuts and the noise is still there (but has gotten a bit
better). A lot of this needed to be done anyway.

I'm looking next at new strut rod bushings to stop this annoying noise,
thoughts?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Dave

My 67 used to do the same thing until I replaced the entire front end
(suspension). I never did figure out exactly what caused it since I
replaced everything at once, but I suspect it was the strut rod bushings.
(I had previously replaced the brake cylinders and pads but that did not get
rid of the clunk).
