Hi Everyone,
I haven't posted on the list for couple of years now. I haven't been doing
much with my 66 hardtop lately. But, I just picked up a really nice 66
convertible with a 289 2v and C4 auto. It's springtime yellow with black
interior. The frame is solid and straight. the sheet metal looks great. No
rust in the usual places. It has the pony interior and power everything.
It's not a GT but it has the fog lights and trumpet dual exhaust. It even
has air conditioning. It runs great and we have been having a blast cruising
every chance we get.
The only issues I have found have been small stuff. The courtesy lights in
the doors didn't work. Found a bad ground and bad bulb and took care of
that. The backup lights didn't work either. A flakey fuse, not blown, just a
bit of high resistance combined with the wrong bulb in one light was found
there. I just need to adjust the neutral lockout switch because right now
the lights come on about half way between reverse and neutral.
Now to the mystery question. There is a small light on the dash of the car
located low and centered between the ignition switch and the cigarette
lighter. It has a small square bezel and no lens. I've never seen anything
like that on an early Mustang before. If I had to guess, I might think it is
a map light or something like that. I don't see any extra switches or
anything that might be used to turn it on. I haven't traced the wiring yet,
but I will as soon as I have some time to explore. Does anyone have any
ideas as to what that light might be used for? I'm trying to figure out if
it is a previous owners add-on or if it was an obscure option that I never
heard of.
I know the gang on this list is really knowledgeable. I'm hoping someone
knows what that light is for.
Thanks,
Mike Hallman

It could be a seat belt reminder light or a parking brake light. Both used
the same chrome rectangular bezel originally used in '63-'64 Galaxies.
Scott Drake makes reproductions of both types. The easy way to tell is to look
at the parking brake assembly. If there is a switch on the rod for the pull
handle it is probably a brake light.
I have a parking brake light for my '64 1/2 . They are not common options
on early Mustangs.

My GT has both--but the parking brake light is over the parking break
handle. I'll be it is a seat belt light. (The plastic usually goes as the
bulb melts it!)

I forgot about the warning lights. I'm guessing it's the seat belt light. If
I recall, those lights came on when you start the car then go off after a
short period of time. Does anyone know how the seat belt light works? Is it
connected to a time delay relay or something like that?
Thanks,
Mike Hallman

Yes, it's a time delay. I found one in a pick-n-pull and stuck it in my
Mustang. Didn't know there was an E-brake light.

Mail From: mahallman (MICHAEL E HALLMAN)
Hi Everyone,
I finally got around to looking more closely under the dash to identify my
mystery light. It is a seat belt warning light. I found the time delay relay
right where the schematics say it should be. The PO had cut the wire going
to it. I reconnected it and turned on the iginition, and the light came
on.... and never turned off. Looks like the TDR is probably bad. It looks
like all I need is a new bezel and TDR. I tried looking to see if I could
find any replacement components, but the only thing I can find is a complete
kit with wiring harness and everything. For now, it remains disconected. At
some point I might spring for the whole kit and just use the parts I need.
Thanks for the great suggestions.
Mike

Yes, it's a time delay. I found one in a pick-n-pull and stuck it in my
Mustang. Didn't know there was an E-brake light.

My GT has both--but the parking brake light is over the parking break
handle. I'll be it is a seat belt light. (The plastic usually goes as the
bulb melts it!)

I have a parking brake light for my '64 1/2 . They are not common options on
early Mustangs.
