Dave Kunz,
Since you cannot share the location of the Bullitt
car, can you answer this:
What is the likelihood of the Bullitt car making it to
the Mustang Museum?

All the list info you'll ever want: antler.moose.to/~server/cm

I would say not very likely. The guy who owns the car (it probably has
not run in over a dozen years at least) bought it in the early 70's in
New Jersey. He refused a purchase offer from Steve McQueen himself,
shortly after the guy had acquired the car.
It now sits in a hay barn in the South, covered with dust and looking
pretty bad. It was trailered there from New Jersey about six years ago,
and will be moving again soon. The owner of the barn needs the space and
wants it out.
In spite of the crummy condition, the owner has stated repeatedly and
vehemently that he will never sell the car - and does not want anyone to
know its whereabouts (that's the reason for all the secrecy). The owner
is apparently well off financially and has turned down many offers over
the years. His big fear is that the car will be stolen if people know
where it is.
In a perfect world, he would loan the car indefinitely to the
forthcoming Mustang Museum - but I'm not holding my breath.
I will be in touch with the guy who wrote to me about the car, as soon
as I show Max Balchowski the photos of the car the guy sent me. Max has
had some health problems recently and is getting up there in years - I
hope to talk to him soon. When I get any more info (if I can), I'll pass
it on.
