I just purchased a Monte Carlo bar for my '65 coupe. I removed the fender bolts that line up with the holes on the brackets for the Monte Carlo bar, and lo and behold! The bar seems a little too "long". Now before I start loosening more bolts and putting the car through contortions, I figured I'd pose the question to the collective wisdom on the list.
Would someone advise me of the correct way to install the Monte Carlo bar?
Oh, I also have an export brace that I'd like to put on. Any help there?
Thanks so much for your help!

Your shock towers may have sagged. Try lifting the front end off the ground
by using a jack under the crossmember. Let it sit for awhile and hopefully
the shock towers will have seperated some. Other than that, pull/push

Regarding the export brace, I put one on my '66 fastback and learned a couple of things. First, start with shock towers first, then the bolts at the firewall. We ended up taking the hood off and it took 2 of us to get the bolts aligned and secured. One of the first things I noticed was the handling was greatly improved. Also I have the car aligned
immediately installing the export brace. The whole process took about an hour longer than we thought it would, but was worth the time and money.

Seems to me that you're putting the cart before the horse. If memory serves
correctly, the export braces go on first, then the MC bar.
The bar is not too long, your shock towers have just moved inward. Bolt one
side down, the with a rubber mallet, knock the other side into place. This of
course depends upon how far out of line your shock towers are....
