On the www.69stang.com website, it has an article that may also apply to your installing modern seats in other older mustangs. The following is detailed to describe the installation. See stephanies-mustang.com/seats.htm. The important thing on the conversion is to use your original seat rails that are lower profile than the newer ones.

I bought a complete interior from an '88 LX coupe and the buckets fit fine but the back would have to be radically modified to fit. The newer seats are far more comfortable, but are also bulkier. I ended up finding the center console I wanted, so decided to have my original seats reupholstered instead. Hope this helps.

Hello,

We have put the BMW seats in out 1965 Mustang.

You get some flat metal and bolt the new seats to this, then you can put the
seats about anywhere you wish.
In the case of Mustang seats you may need saw off some bolt length to fit on
the new rail, or spacers.

Brian

Hello All,

A friend of mine just put a set of 97 Mustang seats in his 65 coupe. He
lives a bit of a distance from me and I haven't seen them yet. He told me
they bolted right in but they are a bit too close to the steering wheel
compared to the stock seats. He'd like to move them back a bit.

Has anyone ever come across this problem and figured an easy way to move
them back a bit?

Thanks!
Scott

Pic attached is for a 1977~1883 BMW 320i and they are made by Recaro!

You can see the rail mechcanism on the bottom of the seats?

i used seats out of a subaru xt-5. i used the subaru seat tracks, mostly because of the way they mount to the seats, but also they were lower profiled than the original mustang tracks.
i also needed to move the seats back because they were too close to the steering wheel as someone else described. so here's what i did.....
cut off any brackets from the subaru tracks that hang downward , to get the bottom side of the tracks completely flat. then went to home depot and got some flat metal stock. what i chose was about 1/8" thick , 2" wide and has holes down the middle about every inch or so. i bolted the flat stock across the bottom of the tracks using holes that were there and/or holes that i drilled. be careful where you put these holes/bolts. you want them to be behind the stops in the tracks so you dont limit the track travel.if these two tracks happen to line up with the seat pan holes(in the floor of the car) then your good. in my case the seats needed to move back and over some. and the two flat stock pieces didnt line up anyway , not even close. if i remember correct the holes in the floor are about 11 or 12 inches apart (front to back) and about 14" side to side. next i took two more of the flat stock pieces and bolted them to the first two (90 degrees) to line up with the floor pan holes relative to where i wanted the seat to be. i ended up with basically a number symbol (#) bolted the the bottom of the subaru seat tracks. i painted the flat stock black to make it disappear against my black carpet. it sounds more confusing than it really is.....if anyone is interested i may be able to snap a pic or two and send it to you.

Yes, I'd like a picture of that please. My FloFit's sit way too far forward and
I'd love to move them back - without re-drilling the floor pan...

Paul - did you ever solve this with yours???

Nope. I modified the seat brackets--what bolts to the floor--to get them as
far back as possible, but they are still a bit close for my taste. I refuse
to modify the floor pans. I want to see what others have done!

Nope. I modified the seat brackets--what bolts to the floor--to get them as far back as possible, but they are still a bit close for my taste. I refuse to modify the floor pans. I want to see what others have done!

Paul - did you ever solve this with yours???

i used seats out of a subaru xt-5. i used the subaru seat tracks, mostly because of the way they mount to the seats, but also they were lower profiled than the original mustang tracks.

i also needed to move the seats back because they were too close to the steering wheel as someone else described. so here's what i did.....

cut off any brackets from the subaru tracks that hang downward , to get the bottom side of the tracks completely flat. then went to home depot and got some flat metal stock. what i chose was about 1/8" thick , 2" wide and has holes down the middle about every inch or so. i bolted the flat stock across the bottom of the tracks using holes that were there and/or holes that i drilled. be careful where you put these holes/bolts. you want them to be behind the stops in the tracks so you dont limit the track travel.if these two tracks happen to line up with the seat pan holes(in the floor of the car) then your good. in my case the seats needed to move back and over some. and the two flat stock pieces didnt line up anyway , not even close. if i remember correct the holes in the floor are about 11 or 12 inches apart (front to back) and about 14" side to side. next i took two more of the flat stock pieces and bolted them to the first two (90 degrees) to line up with the floor pan holes relative to where i wanted the seat to be. i ended up with basically a number symbol (#) bolted the the bottom of the subaru seat tracks. i painted the flat stock black to make it disappear against my black carpet. it sounds more confusing than it really is.....if anyone is interested i may be able to snap a pic or two and send it to you.

Jason--Looks good. My seats are close to the steering wheel. I have to
watch my hip when I get out so I don't whack it on the wheel. Still, the
new seats feel great compared to the other ones.

Sometimes I wish my interior was black--then I could drop in aftermarket
stuff. Having it parchment severely limits what I can do.

Still, those are some good looking seats!

Nope. I modified the seat brackets--what bolts to the floor--to get them as
far back as possible, but they are still a bit close for my taste. I refuse
to modify the floor pans. I want to see what others have done!

i used seats out of a subaru xt-5. i used the subaru seat tracks, mostly
because of the way they mount to the seats, but also they were lower
profiled than the original mustang tracks.

i also needed to move the seats back because they were too close to the
steering wheel as someone else described. so here's what i did.....

cut off any brackets from the subaru tracks that hang downward , to get
the bottom side of the tracks completely flat. then went to home depot and
got some flat metal stock. what i chose was about 1/8" thick , 2" wide and
has holes down the middle about every inch or so. i bolted the flat stock
across the bottom of the tracks using holes that were there and/or holes
that i drilled. be careful where you put these holes/bolts. you want them to
be behind the stops in the tracks so you dont limit the track travel.if
these two tracks happen to line up with the seat pan holes(in the floor of
the car) then your good. in my case the seats needed to move back and over
some. and the two flat stock pieces didnt line up anyway , not even close.
if i remember correct the holes in the floor are about 11 or 12 inches apart
(front to back) and about 14" side to side. next i took two more of the flat
stock pieces and bolted them to the first two (90 degrees) to line up with
the floor pan holes relative to where i wanted the seat to be. i ended up
with basically a number symbol (#) bolted the the bottom of the subaru seat
tracks. i painted the flat stock black to make it disappear against my black
carpet. it sounds more confusing than it really is.....if anyone is
interested i may be able to snap a pic or two and send it to you.

On the www.69stang.com website, it has an article that may also apply to
your installing modern seats in other older mustangs. The following is
detailed to describe the installation. See
stephanies-mustang.com/seats.htm. The important thing on
the conversion is to use your original seat rails that are lower profile
than the newer ones.

I bought a complete interior from an '88 LX coupe and the buckets fit fine
but the back would have to be radically modified to fit. The newer seats
are far more comfortable, but are also bulkier. I ended up finding the
center console I wanted, so decided to have my original seats reupholstered
instead.

Thanks!

Nope. I modified the seat brackets--what bolts to the floor--to get them as
far back as possible, but they are still a bit close for my taste. I refuse
to modify the floor pans. I want to see what others have done!

Paul - did you ever solve this with yours???

i used seats out of a subaru xt-5. i used the subaru seat tracks, mostly
because of the way they mount to the seats, but also they were lower
profiled than the original mustang tracks.

i also needed to move the seats back because they were too close to the
steering wheel as someone else described. so here's what i did.....

cut off any brackets from the subaru tracks that hang downward , to get
the bottom side of the tracks completely flat. then went to home depot and
got some flat metal stock. what i chose was about 1/8" thick , 2" wide and
has holes down the middle about every inch or so. i bolted the flat stock
across the bottom of the tracks using holes that were there and/or holes
that i drilled. be careful where you put these holes/bolts. you want them to
be behind the stops in the tracks so you dont limit the track travel.if
these two tracks happen to line up with the seat pan holes(in the floor of
the car) then your good. in my case the seats needed to move back and over
some. and the two flat stock pieces didnt line up anyway , not even close.
if i remember correct the holes in the floor are about 11 or 12 inches apart

I ended up finding the
center console I wanted, so decided to have my original seats reupholstered
instead.
