Hi,
A message to the list administrator... Would it be hard to implement a
filter that would reject emails containing the word "MIME"??? This is
just a detail, but it is a pain for people reading the digests (I
suppose people receiving individual emails are not annoyed?). I have no
idea how much work it would be, and if you even would want to do that,
but I think it's a good idea!

HEAR, HEAR, the masses have finally risen in protest! I'm on earthlink and
can't read it. When I see MIME, I delete - no reading; too much of a
pain...
Scott
If I wanted to read MIME, I'd buy cars that needed smogged.

I hate to bust anybody's bubble, but MIME is the acronym for
the format used
to insure that mail gets from me to you and any mail reader
should be able to
understand it. Almost all the messages read by any of us is
in MIME format.
The problem is that some mail clients do more with the
message than what the user
wants. For instance the messages that everyone is upset
about are actually multi-part messages, which means they
could have attachments OR offer a choice of formats for
the client to display to the user. What causes the problem
here is that with a multi-part message the header (part of
the message not normally displayed to the user) has
to tell the client that it is a multi-part message and what
the boundary is between that separates one part from the
next. The software used at vntg-mustang.com that resends
our messages to everyone else is striping this header line
out before forwarding the
message so we see the raw message because our client doesn't
know what else to do with
it.
So don't get on the people that send the messages, and by
all means DON'T filter on just the word MIME because you may
lose messages that you wanted to receive.
Just a point of view from someone who knows more about email
than he does about his
own '66 coupe.
Eric

Perhaps, if it's a newer mail reader. But the acronym is "Multimedia
Internet Mail Extensions". This list is about text, not Multimedia, so the
extensions shouldn't be needed.

Sorry to interject, but I agree. MIME is not required to send text messages,
and has little or nothing to do with whether or not the receiving server can
route messages. It really only provides a means of adding pretty little
fonts and pictures. I don't mind if you don't know how to turn it off, and
all the extra messaging instructions are a little anoying, but don't stop
sending information to this digest.
