Max rim size for '66 coupe

I know this has been asked before, but I don't think that I
saw a definitive answer.

Background: I had a close encounter of the third kind with
Bambi up in Yosemite over the New Year's holiday. It is
going to take $5K and 6 weeks to clean up all the damage.
As long as the car is going to be in the body shop, I am
having a bunch of odds and ends done to it, and I am doing
a complete repaint. As part of my "beautification" process,
I am going to break down and get a new set of wheels and
tires for the car. Ideally, I'd like to run an 8.5" wheel
with 225/50s on the front, and a 10" wheel with 255/50s or
275/50s in the rear. I suspect this is impossible, however,
given the tight constraints of the '66 wheel wells. I am
going to have the A-arms lowered, Shelby style, and I am
going to have the shop roll all four fender wells.

Question: Given these constraints, what is the largest size
wheel/tire combo I can get away with running? I would like
to stick with 15" wheels so as to look moderately authentic,
but I would consider going to 16" for performance purposes.

Actually, what I really would like to know is: What are all
you performance freaks out there running, and are you having
any tire/body interference problems?

I have a '69, but I am inclined to think that I am constrained by similar
space limitations.
I run 265/50-15 in front and 295/50-15 in back. Yes it is possible. The
front tires actually were my concern, and they have NO CLEARANCE PROBLEMS
AT ALL!!!! The front of my car is also lowered close to 2" with no other
modifications, thanks to worn out springs. The wheels are 15X7 up front
with 3 3/4" backspacing. The rear is a different story. I had to cheat a
little there, and lift the back of the car a bit, but not so much to
compromise good taste (in my opinion). Anyway, I have 15X8's there. I
don't recall the backspacing on them, but I could use about an inch more.
(Pull the wheels inboard, that is). I am absolutely certain that with
proper backspacing you could fit at least a 275, and possibly a 295 within
the wheel well, at least on a '69. The only other thing I could see that
may be a factor is my car is a disc brake car, but I really doubt that
affects track width/ wheel position.

I run 15x7 rallye wheels (from 69 Stang) with 205/65HR15 in front and
225/60HR15 in the back of my 66 Mustang Convertible. I rolled the back
fender lip a bit in. Clearence in front is OK, even though the car is
lowered 1.5 inches.
