You'll have to excuse me more this elementary
question.

Being only 29 (really), I grew up with cars that
didn't require much if any chassis lubrication. I
bought a grease gun today since I was going to
change the oil on my '66 Mustang. While under the
car I didn't see anything that was obviusly a
grease fitting. Where are the grease points on a
'66 Mustang and do they require a gun or do you
just slop the grease on?

Thanks,
Matt

MATT,

I DON'T HAVE A MANUAL WITH ME TO GIVE YOU EVERY PLACE THAT NEEDS
GREASING BUT, BASICALLY, LOOK FOR "ZERK" FITTINGS. THESE ARE SHINY
NIPPLE-LOOKING THINGS THAT STICK OUT ( I LOVE THAT DESCRIPTION). YOU
PRESS THE GREASE GUN FITTING OVER IT. I USUALLY PUMP IT UNTIL THE
RUBBER BOOT START TO SWELL OR SOME GREASE OOZES OUT. WIPE OFF THE
EXCESS. IF MEMORY SERVES, THESE ZERKS ARE/SHOULD BE LOCATED AT THE
UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS, THE FRONT OF THE A-ARMS ( YOU MAY WANT TO
INSTALL AN 'L" SHAPED FITTING IN THE END TO MAKE THIS EASIER), THE
JOINTS (ROD ENDS) IN THE STEERING AND THE U-JOINTS (AT THE TRANSMISSION
AND REAR END END) IN THE DRIVE SHAFT.

BEST THING TO DO IS GET A COPY OF A MANUAL FOR YOUR CAR AND
STUDY THE CHAPTER OF PERIODIC MAINTENANCE. IT WILL SHOW YOU EXACTLY
WHERE THE FITTINGS ARE LOCATED, PLUS LIST WHERE ELSE (HOOD, TRUCK, DOOR
HINGES) YOU SHOULD LUBRICATE AND WHAT WITH.

JIM

Matt If this car was a CONCOURSE car then all the grease fittings should NOT
be there. Just plugs.

Yes, the assemble manual shows a fitting in the P/S unit.

There is a grease fitting right below where the pitman arm attaches to the center
link but it originally contained a plug just like the ones on the ends of the
upper A-arms.
