Listers:
I read the other day in a magazine where the rear of a '66 Mustang was
dropped a couple of inches by using lowering blocks. I am not sure what
these are, but I imagine they would go between the axle and the leaf
springs, causing the axles to ride higher into the body. Right or wrong? If
right ,does anybody know where these blocks can be obtained?. I have a '66
6cyl. with an 8" axle and I would love to lower the rear a couple of
inches. Appreciate any info on this.

I should just trade rear springs with you. My '66 6 cylinder sags in the
rear and I want to raise it up (I'll just get new springs sometime).
I see lowering blocks in catalogs for street rods and hot rods based on
30's and 40's cars, but also read on mailing lists that these should be
used with caution and that getting springs with a lower installed height
may be a better idea, but I don't know where to get those either.

I'll assume you bought new rear leaf spring and are not used to
having the rear end higher than the front end. Also, make sure the
rear leaf spring shackles are normal length. If you have long ones,
you could drill new holes to help lower the rear. You wont be able
to re-drill original shackles.
Lowering blocks can be picked up at any auto store or off-road 4x4
truck place. They are aluminum blocks with centering pegs that fit
between the rear end and the leaf springs. You will need to get
longer u-bolts too.

You should be able to get them from any large Mustang parts place.
Try Mustangs Plus.
As mentioned, mid or reverse eye springs are a better solution.

Actually, you can probably get the blocks and U-Bolts at Pep Boys or
AutoZone. I've seen them at both places in different sizes.
